Hi,
I’m looking for books that explore how to love unconditionally and compassionately, even toward people who have hurt us, and how to achieve true forgiveness—while still maintaining boundaries and without excusing harmful behavior.
Themes: forgiveness, healing, and navigating complex or difficult relationships
For context: I’ve been reflecting on my own experience with a mentally ill and emotionally unavailable parent, but I’m looking for books that offer a broader, more general philosophy—something applicable to relationships of all kinds.
I’m not looking for books that encourage a “cut them off / screw them” attitude. While that mindset can feel protective at times, I’ve found it can keep people stuck in hurt rather than help them heal (at least in my experience)
Whether it’s a self-help book, philosophy, or fiction that weaves in these themes, I would really appreciate your recommendations!
