So here’s the thing, depression has been rough on me for the past couple of weeks and I need something that will destroy me. Something that’s an eye opener and maybe something that will give me closure as well. I tried using Ao3 like I usually do but nothing worked lol. I love found family, specifically the found father/older brother trope (I have daddy issues). I’m not very fond of anything revolving sex or any characteristics of nsfw; I’m also not fond of romance either. Since I’m struggling with mental health I would also like to see the protagonist also struggle with mental health or something like that. Genres I usually like are Fiction, Fantasy, Sci-fi, YA, Drama, Mystery, Adventure, Slice of Life, Epics. I would also like to see some fluff and angst, and I mean a TON of angst. One thing that is a big turn off for me is pacing issues and when there are unnecessary time skips that skips a lot of character development, especially if it’s between two characters. Forgot to mention I’m a fan of the Grumpy/Sunshine trope but just for found family lol. Example could be a grumpy father/older brother adopting a sunshine kid. I also like to read books that dives into heavy topics that is not just mental health like identity issues, addiction, abandonment, trauma, loneliness, grief, change, toxic relationships, homelessness, etc. I’m not the best at asking what I exactly want so I apologize for not being specific enough and I’m not the best writer so I also apologize for the many grammar mistakes I probably made on this post :’(
TLDR: Give me a book that’s found family, tons of angst, no romance or anything sex/nsfw related

Maybe try reading “Man Called Otto”
Hey, I’m really sorry you’re struggling. I hope life brings better times for you soon.
Have you read The House on the Cerulean Sea? It does have a touch of romance toward the end, but it otherwise fits everything you’re looking for. It’s light and joyful and funny, and it has the grumpy/sunshine trope.
I hope you find a book that makes the hard things feel softer! Take care.
I love the Lockwood & Co series by Jonathan Stroud. Older children’s/YA, but i really enjoyed them as an adult. Fantasy/horror, but at its core, it’s about found family and the friendship between the misfit members of the agency. There’s a slow burn romance, too. I really love this series.
