Curious to hear what authors and books other readers have found out in the wild (haha!) by searching their library’s shelves and not with the assistance of online recommendations or searches.

I still think a hidden gem in the stacks is a wonderful find. One of my most recent ones is historical fiction author Samuel Shellabarger, whose work contains political intrigue, spying, betrayal, and with some swashbuckling adventure thrown in. Very glad to have found him and surprised I don’t see him mentioned by others.

What have other readers found on their own and that they would recommend?

    1. When I was about 11 years old, while wandering through through the stacks, I found a book called The White Mountains by John Christopher. This started a life long love of science fiction.

    2. From a used book store, not a library but currently reading Guests of the Sheik by Elizabeth Warnock Fernea. It looked interesting, it’s about an anthropologist couple who lived in an Iraqi village in the 60’s and how she dealt with the cultural differences. She paints a vivid picture of the village, about their perception of her and how she adjusted.
