Something that I'll remember for having done things to my heart, but not necessarily because it is blatantly tragic. I need something with an undercurrent of sadness throughout, something that can only have a heavy sigh as an appropriate reaction. I need it to be rooted in reality, talking mainly about human relationships and connections. No fantasy, preferably literary fiction.

Do you have an example?
The Razor’s Edge by Maugham, Crossing to Safety by Stegner, and Brazzaville Beach by William Boyd.
This is how I felt about *Eleanor Oliphant is Perfectly Fine* by Gail Honeyman.
It is literary fiction and takes place in modern London. I think about this book and the main character’s journey so often. It is a quiet novel, but deeply tragic. I think it finds subtle ways to be affirming as well. I hope you enjoy it if you give it a try.
