Books where a monstrous corruption is growing in the land, and it must be stopped

Fantasy, I assume, will be the most likely genre, but if you can stretch this idea into other genres, that would be sick! I’m thinking a little more like Terraria and Bloodborne (If that’s the lore) where land is being taken over by some sickness. A little like Princess Mononoke too.
