i love expansive plots and details about characters, especially going over long periods of time. mental illness and misfortune keeps me especially involved, and complicated friendships with time to be fleshed out i love as well.
i did also read a little life, and though for a while it was really good (the friendships especially were interesting) it devolved into being way over the top and treating suicide wierdly. so id like something where trauma and issues have room to breathe and things aren't sensationalised to that degree if that makes sense.
thrillers and dramas much appreciated and fantasy elements are totally welcome too if focused enough on characters as well as everything else. queer novels or subtext always appreciated too along with anything more diverse than the goldfinch is overall.
i hope that makes sense, will check out anything!!!!

The Covenant Of Water by Abraham Verghese might be something you’ll like
This might be a miss but I loved My Dark Vanessa, and the dual timeline felt like it really worked for me with character development and seeing Vanessa process over such a long time. HUUUUUGE content warnings, however. Nothing beats Goldfinch for the feeling of real character feelings tho imo. When I finished that book I felt like i truly *knew* Theo in a way I’ve never had from another character
