I am a firm believer in "if it doesn't engage you in the forst few chapters, move on to the next book." I chose to read The Life of Pi at a friend's recommendation. I knew nothing about the plot other than it involved the main character being stuck on a boat with a tiger. (Tbh I can't remember if my friend told me this, or if my brain just made that up based on the cover art.)

I am on 38 of 100 chapters. Perhaps it is because I have already gone through my religious phases of life, or maybe I just already have discovered much of his opinions of God on my own journey, but I am finding this book incredibly tedious. It just feels like the author is really banging me on the head with,"FROM THE MOUTHS OF BABES COME THE TRUTH OF GOD, BECAUSE HE IS YOUNG AND INNOCENT, THEREFORE HE TRULY UNDERSTANDS HOLINESS. GET IT? HE LIKES GOD IN ALL FORMS. SO HERE'S ANOTHER CHAPTER ABOUT HOW MUCH HE LOVES GOD." I get it. Does the story start soon?

Is it worth finishing? I tend more toward fantasy, historical fiction, and scifi, so modern lit is a little out of my wheelhouse. I feel like 38 chapters is a pretty good attempt, though. Am I being too harsh? Perhaps there is interesting plot or character development coming? I feel like I would have been enthralled when I was in my early twenties, but now the topic just doesn't grab me.

First, never feel guilty for DNF a book. Life is too short. If it’s not for you, dump it.

      THAT SAID:
Life of Pi really turns up in the last third of the book, and the ending twist is great if you haven’t already been spoiled by your friend or the movie, and I think it will fit your novel likes very well. Your friend knows you.
