I feel like this is a bit of a blind spot for me. I have read One Thousand And One Nights and also Hayy Ibn Yaqdhan, but I have never heard of any other old works of fiction in Arabic. Since the language is widely spoken and has a long written tradition, I assume there are many great works that I'm missing out on.
To be clear, I'm looking for 'fiction' in the broadest sense – novels, novellas, short stories, poems, epics, theatre… I'm not looking for any non-fiction such as works on science, theology, history… unless they're presented through a fictional narrative (like Hayy Ibn Yaqdhan).
I'm mainly aiming for works written before 1900 and preferably also before 1800.
