Books like Lisa Yee’s “Stanford Wong Flunks Big Time” but for adults? About self improvement and growing but told in a sweet summer light-hearted way?

I always loved this book. It's about a kid who flunks 6th grade English and his whole world is turned upside down. Instead of going to a a cool basketball camp he has to go to summer school. At first he has a hard time with everything but slowly he grows and learns to adapt and be a better person.

Any suggestions?
Hoping for a "beach read" type of novel with a male protagonist.
