I know Neil Gaiman turned out to be a creep but I can't help but love The Sandman. I'm ironically not great at putting things into words but I really enjoy the exploration of different mythologies and religions, the personification of concepts like dreams, desire, delirium, death…, all the different themes, how weird and messy it is, I love the way it makes me think about people and the universe. I love the idea that a personification of death would be kind and I really enjoyed the last episode where death becomes human for one day. I love the idea that dreams define reality, that they have a lot more power than we give them credit. And I love how much it sometimes feels like a love letter to human kind, how complex our realities and emotions are, all the things we dream up.
I used to read so much as a kid (like literally to the point I'd read a book while walking) but I've struggled to find books I really enjoy as an adult. I'm really interested in any recommendations people would have that relate to this, and I don't mean just books that are similar to the sandman universe (though I would be interested in those too) but also books that explore the same concepts and themes even in a completely different sort of universe or based more in reality. I'd love to read books based on mythology, that explore things in a similar way. I'd even be interested in non-fiction books (maybe philosophy books I'm not sure?) that cover those kind of subjects, that make you think the same way, if that makes sense? Tbh just any books that have made people feel a similar way.
Thank you so much, I'm not sure of this makes any sense and I'm aware I've kind of made the sandman out to be a masterpiece, which I know it isn't, but I just enjoyed it😅
