I'm currently on my way to finishing Homeseeking by Karissa Chen, and it made me realize that most historical fiction I've read regarding WW2 is all from the perspective of someone in the US, or the UK/Paris/Germany.

A large part of Homeseeking takes place in Shanghai. I want to broaden my literary fiction horizon and would enjoy any suggestions you might be able to throw my way. Thanks in advance!

A few I've enjoyed that take place during WW2:

All the Light We Cannot See

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

    The Postcard

    We Are Not Free

“The Things We Cannot Say” by Kelly Rimmer. Great audiobook. Dual narrators for the alternating first person POV’s (present tense) chapters

Occupied Poland 1940’s and present day Florida. 4 generations

Unknown Soldiers by Väinö Linna – it covers the Continuation War between Finland and Russia from the perspective of Finnish soldiers.

    3. Off the top of my head:

*The Empire of the Sun* by J.G. Ballard. The main character is a British boy living with his parents in Shanghai, but ends up separated from them and in a Japanese prison camp.

*The War of the Rats* by David L. Robbins. Soviet and German snipers stalking each other during the battle of Stalingrad.

*If Not Now, When* by Primo Levi. Jewish partisans behind Nazi lines trying to survive and carry out sabotage.
