I’m looking for horror anthologies or short story collections with unsettling stories.
Or if you have a horror book that you'll recommend that doesn't take too long to get to the scary stuff. I have a hard time getting invested in horror books (not anthologies) because they usually take too long with the building, and I'm impatient.
I would rather no Stephen King unless it's an anthology.
I prefer horror that’s eerie, strange, and original over gory or serial killer plots. I don't want gory just for the sake of being gory.
It doesn’t have to be supernatural plots, psychological or uncanny works too, but I want it to give me the feeling of having to look over my shoulder while I'm reading.
I’m not looking for romance-heavy horror or cliché jump-scare-type stories.
You'll find that some of the books that I've mentioned below aren't particularly close to what I've described above of 'what I want', but I enjoy the way that the stories are written.
Books that I enjoyed reading:
"Don't Scream" by Blair Daniels (All four books)
"You Can't Hide" by Blair Daniels
"Halloween Horrors: 13 Tales of Terror" by several authors
"Don't Look" by Blair Daniels
"House With One Hundred Doors" by Travis Brown
"Tales of a Security Guard" by Boris Bacic
"Let Me In" by Blair Daniels
"The Moonlit Road" by William Stuart
"Sleepless Nights Collection" by Tobias Wade
"Tales of the Macabre" by Newton Webb
"Scary Stories" by Boris Bacic
"Quarter to Midnight" by Darcy Coates
"100% Unfiltered Nightmare Fuel" by Tom Russell
"Small Horrors" by Darcy Coates
