When I was young, during the summers I would get these books at the bookstore that always involved puzzles that has to be solved to advance in the story. I'm a bit bored and thought that something like that could be fun to read and try to work through the puzzles. Does anyone know what type of books I'm referencing? Just trying to figure out what to look for at the book store to find similar types of books. Thanks.

not sure if it’s exactly the same but murdle is a book of puzzles inspired by wordle that are all solving murders. there’s not much plot, but a little bit
What type of puzzles were they?
I think you are searching in the wrong direction. What you are looking for are “visual novels” with the “mystery” and “puzzle” sub genre. They are more in the pc gaming than book though.
Exit! the Game now makes novels.

I haven’t read it yet because there’s a long hold list at the library, but [here](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/212431569) is a recent release with the premise you’re interested in.
