For reference, I’ve always leaned more towards the cinephile/visual art forms. However, good writing has always caught my eye and I have a lot of friends who are avid readers! So, I’m looking to start my reading journey, that’ll hopefully help with my own writing as well.
Since I’m new, I don’t really have a lot of preferences. In terms of stories I gravitate towards, I’ve always been a big fan of romance and drama— although, existential stories that make you think and feel have also always been attractive to me. Mysteries as well, provided there’s meat to the story beyond just it being a mystery.
So yeah, please send me your best recommendations!

If you are ok with the author being flipant with ordained punctuation – No Country For Old Men’ is a quick fun read I found to be very engaging.
It gets recommended here a lot but there is a reason for it. Check out Flowers for Algernon
by Daniel Keyes. It’s beautiful, makes you think and question and wonder…and isn’t that long.
I read Our Infinite Fates earlier this year and gave it five stars
I think the writing is really beautiful and the story is engaging
It does have a lot of romantic elements, and how love is explored through these two beings it follows. You may have been able to tell from that weird sentence but it is magical realism so be warned
Watership Down. Yes, it’s about rabbits. But it’s also an adventure story, and an exploration of life and death, and it’s just the most beautiful perfect book.
The Kite Runner
Isaac’s Song by Daniel Black is excellent
