I loved this book intensely. The south intrigues me so much especially tales of growing up there. Probably because it's so different from Scandinavia where I grew up. I tried to read Educated but it didn't click with me, perhaps I was too impatient.

In Southern Discomfort, Tena Clark, who later became a successful music producer and an activist, tells the story of her extremely flawed childhood in the middle of the civil rights era in Mississippi, her parents were extreme characters but she was raised mostly by her warm and loving nanny Virgie. I couldn't recommend this book enough!

The south was filled to the brink back then, so much horror, ignorance, yet with beautiful threads of intense human connection, representing some of the worst of humanity but also some of the best.

Please share other books set in the south that you guys love, I like memoirs a lot but anything really where the south becomes another character.
