It doesn't have to be the detective, if there's a book with a villain/mastermind who's similar to Van Dimes [ The Decagon House Murders ] or Ishigami Tetsuya [ The Devotion Of Suspect X ] or Hannibal Lecter [ The Hannibal Franchise ]
Basically the Super-Duper-Smart character doesn't have to be the protagonist/detective.
