i am a mother with two children of 7 and 10, i think it's important for them to learn some problem solving skills and some critical thinking skills. i have read lots of children's book, but i didn't find a good one in this area for me to read to my children or to reference.
have you read any similar books that you would recommend to me? pls tell me the name and the author of the books you recommend. thanks!

There’s the Choose Your Own Adventure books…each chapter allows you to choose from a couple of different options to go to next.
Encyclopedia Brown
There’s a really good children’s short story called “A Notable King” that teaches a very practical life lesson. It’s available from Short Edition’s short story dispensers but you can also read it online here:

I just read to my kids “Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh”. It’s narrative, but it basically tells kids how different wild/farm animals (and then some captured animals) solve their problems. My kids and 8,8,5 and they all loved it. I would say the problem solving lesson is in disguise, since the plot and characters are so charming.

Andrea Beaty has a series of excellent picture books (age 6-9 ish) on the scientific process/ problem solving/ experimentation.
Then there are wonderful Early Readers and Activity Books that expand the lessons, and grow with the children.
The writing is so fun, with great rhythm and rhyme. Also the books are about different children in the same 4th grade class, so kids can spot familiar faces.
I recommend Rosie Revere Engineer, and Ada Twist Scientist!
