    Hello there,
I’m not very experienced in reading but I want to start reading more books.

I’m i interested in politics, political science, economics and philosophy.
I just wonder what some very basic books would be just to get to know the key figures for example Marx, Rousseau or Smith. I want some books that teach me the concepts and ideas of those people and the critique they earned.
I think if I directly start with plato or Marx I’m lacking relations and terms. I also bought a very general Psychology book but it feels more like the one a Psychology student would buy before his first semester. Im overwhelmed to be honest. I’m not planning on studying any of this and don’t want a textbook which I need pen and paper for to understand anything.
Just some light informative texts about any of the above.
Thanks for taking the time to read this!
If any of you have any suggestions (preferably with a German translation) that would be great! I know it’s a strange request and finding something might be hard….
(If there are any questions please let me know – English isn’t my first language)
Also if there is a different sub or recourse you know of that would be great too!

This sounds strange, but if it were me I’d actually start with Wikipedia for this kind of self-driven survey course in those fields. It’s a really good starting place (I personally think). For example, I just checked the page on Foucault’s *Discipline and Punish*, a work I’ve read, and it’s pretty damn comprehensive, and a good intro to concepts in the work.
