    I am going through a dark phase in life and I want something that makes me feel more hopeful yet realistic and possibly some tips to overcome this.

    Also I have this constant feeling of self hatred and doubting others form of love and appreciation to me.

      You are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness by Jen Sincero helped me in my 20s, and then I read The Essence of Buddhism by Jo Durden Smith. I’ve never connected with mainstream religion, I’ve always been more spiritual. It’s a nice guide that explains their values and it resonated with me more than an unconditional god that loves you conditionally and if you don’t do exactly what he wants, you’ll suffer forever. It starts out with an example of (paraphrasing here) “If your house is on fire and you’re upset you lost control of your possessions, it’s because your possessions have control of you.” And I apply that to when people or life would upset me, it helped ease my anxiety for sure. I talked to a shrink to manage my anxiety because I didn’t want to be on pills, and he told me anxiety causes depression so if you could manage that, it’ll curb your depression. I hope you feel better soon.
