I’m looking for some book recs to read while I am working! I am very busy on my shifts but some shifts I have the opportunity to read. I was binge reading thriller/mystery but I noticed I started getting anxiety while reading them, making my job harder. I read romance/smut as my “at home” books. So I am really looking for some options WITHOUT spice or scaries!! I work at a children’s hospital so preferably nothing with abuse or anything negatively involving children. Nonfiction books make me fall asleep unless they are a really good memoir.

Currently reading Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, read all the rest already. Loved Throne of Glass. I need a story to get sucked into. Not opposed to fantasy. Preferably female authors please ! Bonus points for kindle unlimited 🙏🫶 TIA!!!

    1. I listen to audiobooks to fall asleep, and I had the same problem with thrillers. I would get so anxious I couldn’t sleep.

If you like mysteries, have you tried the so-called “cozy” mysteries? They deliver the puzzle solving benefits without the anxiety. I love the Vera Wong and Finley Donovan books, because even though there’s usually a murderer or two, you kinda know everything’s going to be OK in the end.

Agatha Christie’s Poirot books are old-fashioned detective stories, very captivating, not scary. You can read in order, and you will have quite a bunch to binge through.

I would recommend manga as well if you haven’t tried; something like Fairy Tail or One Piece would keep me entertained, interested, and the stories are quite nice and uplifting.

      Rachel Gillig!

Ann Liang (I hope this doesn’t fine you) if you want romance without spice. Or I am not Jessica Chen for a more serious tone and more of a self discovery book
