Hi there, I've got mad ADHD and I've struggled with reading my whole life, but I love it when I'm seriously into a book more than anything else I could be doing. I'm recently medicated, have a lot of stress in life I could use distractions from, and have some more time on my hands.
TLDR; The title.
My favorite book of all time is The Southern Book Club's Guide To Slaying Vampires. I love everything about this book. I love the insight to the characters and how the story unfolds with suspense leading to some things I never expected and landing in a way that fit the story. I was really on the edge of my mental seat and that's what I love. I also loved reading the dynamic with the villain and how that played out, even though some of what he did had my skin really crawling and was hard to read.
I just finished The Sun Down Motel and after the first few chapters it starts getting pretty good, I liked it a lot! I did not love it, but it's hard to find a book that just excites me like the first time I read any of the other books mentioned here.
In highschool I loved the Unwind serious and from there everything else I read by Neal Shusterman. I also loved Red Midnight for completely different reason, and I liked that book I forget the name of about the girl who was abandoned by her people on an island and after her brother was killed she eventually befriended the wolf that killed him.
I like dark, sad, thrilling suspenseful stories with intricate characters and often a dash of romance (maybe more than a dash after I love the characters). I want to fall in love with the characters, the writing style, and be on the edge of my mental seat anxiously trying to read fast enough to know what happens. Honestly I like feeling a little scared, but I don't like gore if it feels like it's just to be edgy and not pushing the plot or revealing something we've been waiting for.
I would love any suggestions! My library is pretty small but I'm hoping to find some books there still, I wish I could go in person long enough to really look around, hopefully not too far off. Any tips for navigating a library quickly? Ours doesn't have genre sections but a number of nearby city's should.
