I’m looking for something that would be on a list with: Catch-22(Heller), Invisible Man(Elison), Salughterhouse-Five(Vonnegut), Mumbo Jumbo(Reed), and Gravity’s Rainbow(Pyncheon). I started making this very list, and noticed it had no female authors on it, and looking for help filling that gap.

I’ve heard all of those described as Postmodern, which is why I include that in the title, but I’ve also heard many fine novels called Postmodern which aren’t what I’m looking for here, hence the question mark and the examples. If I were to describe the Vibe rather than giving examples I would say – sprawling in scope, engaging with serious–even existentially important topics without heaviness of tone, playful with language, self-aware and perhaps self-referential in voice.

    Thank you!

By a woman? Can’t think of one. But I think you’d like One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.
