I am an aspiring author, with a character I wish to write about. However I recognize my skills, my knowledge, aren't where they need to be to write this character effectively, so I'm looking for some books to up my game as it were.
I'm looking for both fiction and non-fiction titles that feature characters with severe, violent, disturbed behavior. Your psychopaths, sociopaths, monsters, serial killers, those who get too much enjoyment out of violence and death to be considered anything close to 'mentally well-balanced'.
My preferred genre would be fantasy, but I'll read anything that portrays this kind of mental illness WELL. I'm not looking for your cheapy slasher, I'm looking for something that treats both the character with sincerity and treats the mental issues with the respect they deserve. Well written characters with well written illnesses, and as stated above, bonus points if they aren't explicitly a villain/bad guy.
