I need suggestions for a beach read, except not a beach read. No rom-com, no Sophie Kinsella-esque. I will BE on the beach, relaxing and reading, and I want beautifully written fiction with content that is both plot-driven and character-driven. Just because it's "literary" doesn't mean it shouldn't be entertaining. I'd like something not too heavy since I'll be on vacation, but nothing vacuous either. Tell me what you've read and loved that sounds like this. Oh, for reference, I've just finished the Tana French Cal Hooper novels. I love a literary mystery. I can sink into her books though she does repeat shticks a lot….. But I also just read Annie Proulx's current short story in The New Yorker and loved that also.
