As the title says, I just got dismissed from work recently due to my company cutting losses. I’ve been low key depressed, questioning my self-worth after applying for jobs, only to get rejected or ghosted by recruiters.
I just want myself to recover from my self-deprecating tendencies like mindlessly scrolling on social media to exhaust my energy to sleep, watching series I’ve seen before, skipping my skincare routine, and constantly checking my email inboxes before going to bed.
It’s been tough and I just want to consciously get away from reality and not to torment myself with bad habits like these.
Book recommendations of any genre would help. Thank you so much in advance!!

A few months ago I bought an e-book about this because I read a lot, and there are so many books with many metaphors that what I really wanted was a step-by-step guide. I found [this one](https://linkis.guru/Unstoppable-ebook), it comes with several templates and teaches you how to create new habits, stay focused and motivated in record time. I recommend it with your eyes closed if you feel that you are currently feeling held back or stuck and want to get out of that vibe.
{{Man’s Search for Meaning by Victor Fraenkl}}
Donald Westlake’s _The Ax_ is literally about this, just please don’t take toooo much guidance from the main character!
When I lost my job, I read Mark Manson’s “The subtle art of not giving a fuck” the day it happened on the train home.
It was amazing for moving on quickly and deciding I did not need that shit.
I hope things get better soon; job hunting SUCKS.
Maybe some low stakes magical realism like The Coincidence Makers? By Yoav Blum
It’s a sweet book and an easy read .
I found it quite transporting in a gentle way 🙂
