I am a big fan of literature (mainly classic type) from past few years. I like to read everyday but my parents don't let me read fiction books , they say to read only academic books. I don't read literature whole day I also focus on academics but they don't even let me read 1-2 hours. I cant even buy books my parents won't let me so I always read in my mobile kindle app. Sometimes I get so bored by the mobile screen you know the real paper read is something else but no problem I can deal with that for some time. So I read in my mobile phone but my parents won't let me do that also. Yesterday I was reading the brother Karmazov and my parents caught me and I said I am not reading any book it's just some article but when they snatched my phone (she snatched my phone my mother always do that my father sometimes restrict me but he don't care about my reading fiction) she saw that I was 200 pages in that book so she scolded me that you read books in your study table in your room and tell me you are studying she said to delete the app , I did delete the app…it's not a big problem I will download it again but you know what my problem is.I want to make a Library of my own and I will do that in future. Don't loose your hobby no matter how the situation is.

    1. Being able to read, understand and critique writing from a number of different sources is a very important life skill. Is there any way you can ask a teacher to talk to your parents and suggest broadening your reading material in order to improve your language skills?

    2. Looks like we had the same kind of parents. I just fought with them enough that now they’ve given up on trying to dictate my hobbies.

    3. Depending on your age your parentd should really give you the freedom to read whatever you choose.
You could wish for a book you want for birthday/christmas, maybe that would help.

    4. You need to confide in an adult you can trust, eg teacher at school, as they will have a duty to act so someone can explain to your parents that Reading is very healthy and indeed good for your development.

    5. There’s something wrong with your parents and not being able to engage your imagination will lead you to having a very mediocre life. Obviously they still believe that academic achievements are the only thing worth p[pursuing either because that’s what they did (or didn’t do) with their lives. Unfortunately while you are living at home it’s probably not worth fighting them on it bu try to read what YOU want to read when they around or when you are outside of the home. Then once you leave home for good you can do whatever you want. Life is about balance and happiness and satisfaction do not come from how much money you make or how many bits of paper you have on the your wall. All the best.

    6. Sorry to hear. That sounds like a real struggle, and for something so good for you anyway!

But if you need a non-app option for a time (if they look for the Kindle app on your phone), maybe type the book you want + Project Gutenberg. They are a site offering free access to public domain works/classics, so hopefully it should always be available for you, no matter what apps you do/don’t have on your phone.

That sucks. Don’t you have any classes on literature? Also maybe you can read history openly there’s some good biographies and other history books that make good reads.
