At the start of the year, I read Red Dragon, and it completely blew me away.
I’m a huge fan of Hannibal (both the show and the movies) and psychological horror in general, so I expected to like it but, I wasn’t prepared for how much I’d love the way it was written.
The shifting perspectives, the way each character seems to live in a separate world, yet constantly impacts the others, hooked me.
Francis Dolarhyde, in particular, is such a fascinating character. He’s obviously deeply flawed, but those random glimpses of humanity and even tenderness made him unforgettable. Months later, I still think about that painfully cringe museum scene bahah (I love it)
I also really enjoyed The Silence of the Lambs, but nothing has stuck with me the way Red Dragon has.
Do you have any recommendations for books with a similar style or feel?
Important note- I loved the duality of Dolarhyde, but I'm not looking for a dark romance type of book. I don't mind some elements of romance/chemistry between characters but it shouldn't be the focal point of the story.
