Picked it up on Bruce Springsteen’s suggestion. I know of two versions of The Ghost Of Tom Joad. The version on the album High Hopes is particularly moving:
Now, I thought these lyrics were devastating:
“Mom, wherever there's a cop beating a guy
Wherever a hungry newborn baby cries
Where there's a fight against the blood and hatred in the air
Look for me, Mom, I'll be there.”
These are vital:
“No home, no job, no peace, no rest”
It’s not for the faint of heart and it’s long and exhausting, but, laws, it’s powerful.
