I want to gift my 88 year old Lebanese grandfather a poetry book. He is perfect in literary Arabic and has no trouble understanding it. He enjoys poetry, but he’s more of an amateur than an expert.
I would like to get him a book that compiles several poems from different authors and possibly different eras of Arab poetry, in Arabic. Ideally, the book would include useful footnotes or even some analysis, and if the poems were categorized by theme, that would be perfect.
I’d also love a recommendation for a book that compiles poems from a broader Middle Eastern tradition, like Turkish or Iranian poetry. The language for this could be either French or Arabic.
Finally, I would also welcome suggestions for a poetry anthology that compiles works from all over the world, also in either french or arabic
Thank you for your help! For me, the most important recommendation is the Arab poetry book. Your recommendations and ideas mean a lot to me! I really w to gift him something meaningful.
