I'm cursed with the ADHD & dyslexia combo, and as such really struggle with reading, so I'm trying to find a genre that would pull me in enough to finish a book.

I love the 'doesn't have long to live' plot (i.e. character with a terminal illness, or character who can see into the future and knows that they're going to die). I'm also very much into fantasy, especially when it involves royalty. I need something that hooks you from the start, a real page-turner, because it's hard to get me hooked haha.

I've dropped ACOTAR (found it too slow & slightly cheesy? not sure how to describe it), and I've also failed to read six of crows as I couldn't get hooked into the plot & found it tricky to read. The only book I've successfully finished in the past 5 years is Song of Achilles, if any of that info helps!

    Thank you in advance 🙂

    1. You might like A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes. The stories are based off of mythology and jump around a lot from character to character. And since we know how a lot of them turn out (Cassandra, for example), they can be pretty tragic. Although an entertaining read too if that makes sense?

If you liked Song of Achilles, you might give Circe a go – I really enjoyed it. Also, check out Ink Blood Sister Scribe by Emma Torzs. I read it last year and it was really hard for me to put down! Finished it in a few days

    3. It’s not exactly fantasy, more speculative fiction, but They Both Die at The End by Adam Silvera could be up your alley.

I’d recommend checking out The Raven Scholar by Antonia Hodgson. Within the first few chapters something tragic happens, which sets the story in motion.

    5. Bride by Ali Hazelwood was good and really kept me invested… i read a lot of fantasy and sometimes they start to feel draggy…. but this one did not. Its self aware in its cheesyness… Its supposed to be kinda funny, but serious at the same time. which makes it entertaining.

Once Upon a Broken Heart trilogy is really good… the books arent too long, but the world is so beautiful and creative. its been one of my favorite series I have ever read. Everyone else i have got to read it LOVED it… i even got my friend who never reads to read it, and now she is an avid reader… so i think it has a good hooking quality.

The Warning by Kristy Acevedo is one that is literally WRITTEN for low attention spans. The story starts on page 2 and keeps you highly invested all the way through. its a duology…. and really fast paced. Its a bit more Sci-fi, but dont let that scares you away.
