I wanted to start by listing my top five favorite books in order for reference:

    1. Catch-22 by Joseph Heller
    2. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain
    3. The ABC Murders by Agatha Christie
    4. Martin Eden by Jack London
    5. 11/22/63 by Stephen King

I'm looking for an old hardcover book with an old cover that's very plain but in a way that's aged and makes it feel like I'm digging into the past.

I want the book to feel cold, whether it's primarily set in the snow or something with a winter kind of theme. And I'd like for it to be cozy but only in the way that the world would be a completely lovely place if not for some scary thing that the book centers on.

What I'm looking for is a book where a small cast of characters are out in the cold, maybe in a place they love, maybe they're out prowling around, and they stumble on a place beyond explanation, but a strange, almost alien place, and what they experience feels very analog in a Backrooms kind of way, or a Stalker (Roadside Picnic) kind of way.

Books like this I've already read would include "Misery" by Stephen King and "I'm Thinking Of Ending Things" by Iain Reid, just for extra reference.

    Thanks so much!
