We are a group of 40 something year old moms (all professionals/educators), to 19 year to a 6 year old (only happy accidents here) bundles of joy. We are are each going through the wringer with what life has to offer. We have teenage pregnancies, cheating spouses, middle of the night shuttles off to rehab and secret plans that could blow up a family unit or 2.
I would like to start our first ever shared annotated book club. Meaning, I would like to choose a book, make notes and thoughts in the form of annotations in said book, and then pass it on to the next person in the group to do the same. I thought is sounded like a great way to 1) take our minds off of our realities and 2) Bond as a friend group in a more intimate way as we read the musings of each other.
Where you come in: No genre or topic is off limits, BUT to set the president of future shared book annotations to come AND encourage our bonds of friendship…
What book should I choose as our first ever *Insert Name* and *Book Recommendation"
Thank you all in advance for your opinions, I will tell you how it goes

The Enchanted April by Elizabeth Von Arnim
The Five: The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper
I think you’ll need to have multiple different books in circulation, otherwise it’s just one book being passed around slowly
It doesn’t sound like much enjoyment will be had if you’re mom #40 on the book rota. You’ll be waiting years to get your hands on the book
I think The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern would be a great first pick.
It is magical, atmospheric, and full of rich details that beg for annotations.
Everyone could jot down favorite passages, theories, or even doodles in the margins.
It is also the kind of book that mixes escape with emotion, so it gives plenty of room for your group to connect while still taking your minds off day to day struggles.
Thank you.
