I'm looking to get back into reading after a very long hiatus. Something I'm interested in is a book or series that has some sort of conflict, whether war or political, with POV on each side, and everything thinks they are the good guys without necessarily a lot of moral ambiguity.
There's certainly a lot of media kind of like this, but I think there's often some inherent bias about who you should root for. For example, in ASOIAF, despite the multiple viewpoints, I think you're supposed to cheer for the Starks and Dany. Or in Star Wars media deep down you know you're always hoping the Jedi and the Rebellion wins out. Is it possible for an author to write a tale where you go, "this guy's good…but this guy's good, too!"??
I tried searching old reddit posts for this, and this is a grouping of some books that seem to fit what I'm looking for. Hopefully you all can let me know if they actually would work, or any other ones I might want to check out. Thanks!
- Kane and Abel
- This is How You Lose the Time War
- Legend of the Galactic Heroes
- Dandelion Dynasty
- Malazan series
- The Wars of Light and Shadow
- The Elder Empire
- The Lions of Al-Rassan
- Soldier Son trilogy

The Sun Just Might Fail will be a great one and it opens up an awesome world. By H. Behm. Multi pov of Characters thinking of others and the action and relationships is top notch.
