I'm planning a "first period" rescue kit for my tween, with all the usual pads & change of clothes things. The only book I read which mentioned it was a Sweet Valley High book. She likes fantasy but as lately been reading some realistic fiction of it grabs her… or when she's bored. Suggest me books that deal specifically with female puberty, fiction only. She has enough non fiction on the subject. Thanks!

“Are you there god, it’s me Margaret” is the classic for this.
On a fantasy note, Kelley Armstrong’s Darkest Powers series starts off with a character getting her first period. Puberty is not really the focus of the plot, though (it’s a YA series, so depends on if your tween is more into middle grade or young adult at this stage).
Oooh, Tamora Pierce sounds perfect. She wrote several YA fantasy series that deal explicitly (but age appropriately) with girls going through puberty.
The Song of the Lioness is the first published series and follows a girl who pretends to be a boy to go through knight training.
The Protector of the Small series is about the first girl to openly train for knighthood. She’s calm and determined, and personally my favorite.
