Not sure if I can articulate this well, and I'm sure there is not just one book that fits what I'm looking for.
I'm looking for a book that attempts to explain why people and the world suck sometimes. I think anyone who is paying attention right now can easily find things to be frustrated about.
I'm just a little annoyed with people and the world at the moment and want a book that discusses the frustrating parts of society and human nature.
It can be a scholarly non-fiction book that looks at psychology and human behavior, or it can be a funny fiction book with a grumpy old man complaining about annoying people and circumstances in the world.
Basically, what's a good book for someone feeling temporarily misanthropic and annoyed with all the frustrating things about society?

Christopher Brookmyre is great for this type of satire
Cults Like Us by Jane Borden
A few years ago I would have suggested the phone book.
In the realm of fiction, there are the books Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh and Old Masters by Thomas Bernhard, which are very good.
I have heard about the book The Basic Laws of Human Stupidity by Carlo M. Cipolla. I have never read it, but it has received good reviews.
