I find it shockingly difficult to find stories in which the trans character does not already know that they’re trans in the beginning. I find the internal discovery much more important and special than the social coming out, and I really want to see more depictions of it.
In short: where are all the eggs? Lol

Too Bright to See by Kyle Lukoff is a middle grade novel that meets this criteria.
Woodworking by Emily St James opens in media res, as it were, but with recent flashbacks that go into the self-discovery process.
Wellllll… maybe this doesn’t count exactly. Or maybe it does?

Jumps around in time. Main character has realized she is trans at the beginning but hasn’t come out or socially transitioned at all at the outset of the story.
Dead Collections from Isaac Fellman. Main character is already trans, but love interest realizes they are also trans over the course of the book.
Stag Dance by Torrey Peters!! It’s three short stories and a novel, most of them involve trans people still figuring themselves out but especially the main novel goes really deep into it. Did a great job with the audiobook too if you like reading that way!
