I'm an intern running social groups at a day program. One of the activities I want to bring is a bookclub. I'm looking for book recommendations for adults with disabilities/ranging cognitive functions. Some have very low reading levels, others have somewhat higher but all range between Kindergarten-3rd/4th grade. I want it to be relatable to them/somewhat age appropriate, but I also know they do have some interests in the more child like realm of characters. I want to try and avoid triggering topics such as violence and abuse. Any genre within children/YA is welcome (fantasy, fiction, nonfiction, etc). I've sat here wondering if all the books I think about are appropriate age wise but also cognitively, and found that I lean either too difficult of a reading level or too childish that it won't be relatable. The goal is to come up with 2 books that people participating can vote on and that's the book we read for the month so a longer book isn't bad but encouraged. Any and all help is appreciated. THANK YOU!
