Yesterday, I read more than half of U.S adults read below a sixth grade level — and I believe I'm one of them. I've always been behind when it came to reading in school. As I have learning disabilities that affected my reading & mathematical skills.

Recently, I've been trying to get into reading books to improve my reading skills, however, the books I started with seem to be too advanced and I just lose interest.

What books would you recommend to read for someone in my situation?

    1. If you’re comfortable telling us, may we know what your learning disabilities are? Asking because there are things like dyslexia-friendly books.

What kind of stories do you like? Are you drawn to certain types of characters?

What are some of the books that were too advanced to give us an idea of where you are. Are there *any* books that you’ve felt ok about?

    3. What are your interests? A lot of times when there’s a good book about something you’re interested in, it’s easier to read. Let us know what you like to do, what you like to watch, the kind of things you’re interested in!

    4. Two things to try: Google 9th grade reading lists and that will give you several books that are good quality but not too long or challenging to read.

2nd is to find some well-known books (Moby Dick, Treasure Island, etc) and read those while listening on Audible or something similar. You can adjust the pace to your reading ability and the audio will help keep you engaged while your reading improves. As you get better, you can speed the pace up little by little and work up to longer and more complex books.

      Good luck and stay committed!
