Books where a character descends into madness and rejects/or is alienated from society

Looking for well written novels or short stories where a character grows more insane as the story continues. I love stories like “hunger” by Knut Hamsun, “the yellow wallpaper” by charlotte perkins Gilman, and “bartleby the scrivener” by Herman Melville , where I find each main characters of these stories descend into insanity and are alienated from society.
