    1. Ninety Two in the Shade by Thomas McGuane. Violent story of two rival flats guides in the Florida Keys. Kind of esoteric writing (think McCarthy or Faulkner) and somewhat niche subject matter, but a well written and I think, compelling story.

The River Has Roots by Amal El-Mohtar. A beautiful little modern fairy tale: think Frozen but with English countryside fae folklore & beautiful writing about music (dedicated in part to the author’s childhood harp teacher)

King Leopold’s Ghost by Adam Hochschild – so well written and utterly gripping.
