Hey guys. This is probably weird but it's something that im quite self conscious about.

I have a terrible memory, but really want to read more and ironically prefer non-fiction books.

I put it off though because I feel as though I retain so little of what I read, I see people in debates refer to what a specific author said in a specific book, and i don't want to debate, but I feel as though that could never be me in the sense of remembering what I read.

Would "brute forcing" it though help? Just picked up a book and read?

It will probably improve your memory a bit but it’s not magic. It might be helpful to keep a journal and write down interesting things you read and the book and page number. Writing it down can help your memory but it can also function as a ‘second brain.’ This way you don’t have to remember everything you’ve read exactly because you can just open your journal and then find that page and read it to jog your memory. Another thing you could try is explaining what you read to your friend or family member or if you have no one you can explain things to, imagine explaining it to someone. I feel that helps me grasp the concepts and remember them better
