Hello, I'm looking for a book, or ideally a series which is similar in tone to Fletch and the Junior Bender series both of which I loves. To elaborate on why I liked them:
Fletch: Good pacing, great dialogue, cool protagonist. The books don't over-describe a scene, which for me personally slows the pacing down. Naturally not all books hit the same, but that is my overall feeling towards them. I didn't read the last two installments, simply because I'm not interested protagonist's son. I re-read them recently.
Junior Bender: I loved the whole "private eye for crooks" theme, the characters were great, the pacing was a bit slower than Fletch but I still found it overall pretty decent, same goes for the dialogue, first person narration. There hasn't been a new book in the series for a bit which is a shame. I just finished the series yesterday.
For both: I liked the humor, both protagonists had a moral compass and were intelligent, both had flaws. In both the main character had a solve a mystery and the reader only knew as much as the protagonists, i.e. the narration followed the main character only.
These ones I've already tried and didn't really like which may said to be, at least somewhat. similar are Dortmunder, Simeon Grist, Parker. What I don't want is a police procedural or the protagonist being in law enforcement. Private investigator or journalist is ideal I think.
Ideally what I wound want is another Junior Bender book, but any suggestions that would itch the scratch would be really fantastic. Although I fully appreciate that this may be a very restricted request for suggestions.

Check out Lawrence Block’s Bernie Rhodenbarr series-funny, fast, and a burglar-turned-sleuth vibe that feels close to Junior Bender.
