Exactly what it says in the title, preferably more modern books
A LOT of entertainment today (like movies or shows) feels like it either goes too with meta humor and reaches self-parody levels OR tries so hard to make itself serious and "mature" it jumps into bloodthirsty edgelord territory.
I want a story that respects itself whilst also indulging in a bit of self-deprecating humor :))

For non fiction, anything by David Sedaris, but in particular, Me Talk Pretty One Day.
