Looking for a book set in Asia or about Asian culture
Hi all! I'd love some recommendations for books set in Asia or that explore Asian history, culture, or daily life. Any genre is welcome — fiction, non-fiction, classics, or contemporary. Thanks!
I’m not sure if you have any preference towards specific cultures in Asia because it is hugely variable. These are my two favorite books that fit this category but they pertain to the parts of Asia which I trace my ancestry to, which might not necessarily be what interests you (I feel like when people talk about ‘Asian culture’ they mainly mean East Asia but maybe that’s not what you mean)
* *Midnight’s Children* by Salman Rushdie (1981) – the history of India’s early independence is the backdrop for this work of magical realism
* *A Strangeness in My Mind* by Orhan Pamuk (2014) – a chronicle of Turkey’s modernization through the eyes of a disconnected street vendor

I read one about China this year, for Goodreads challenge, let me look up for the name. It was great
