TL;DR: Please recommend me some literary fiction/romance novels/YA by authors not from the UK or US. Needs to be an English translation though
I’m trying to read books (fiction) from 25 different countries this year, to widen my reading out from just being UK & US.
I’m on 18/25 so far and have read some really interesting novels; however, a lot of the books I’m finding are quite… serious. More heavy than I’d like to be reading in the half-hour before I go to bed, anyway. I love a serious novel sometimes, but it would be nice to read some international rom coms or fun literary fiction. Or even good quality YA.
Who are the international Emily Henrys or Taylor Jenkins Reads or Gabrielle Zevins?
TIA!

Catherine Lim (Singapore) comes to mind at once. She addresses social issues but in a very “women’s lit” way. *A Leap of Love* is an offender like that, but don’t let me dissuade you. Otherwise, *The Bondmaid* is a classic.

About a woman in japan who is on the hunt for a career she enjoys that doesn’t ask her to do much, and keeps finding either pointless busywork or emotional minefields in the workplace.
I feel like the title spoils the conclusion haha
