I'm about 130 pages into Lonesome Dove and it just hasn't grabbed me. It's not bad but I don't know if it's worth investing the time to finish the other 800 pages.
Is the rest of the book similar to the first 130? Or does it "get going" a bit more?
For some context I did really enjoy East of Eden from recommendations here so I do enjoy a slow read without a ton of plot necessarily.

It gets going for sure
It’s pretty slow paced in general, but eventually it does get going. Most of what makes the book special are the personality and depth of its characters.
Yes it gets going. It’s been years since I read it but I do remember the beginning being a rough start then not being able to put it down.
Yes, it’s totally worthwhile. Just remind yourself that this is an 800+ page epic, so it’s a satisfying arc but a longer and bigger one so it does feel like you’re stuck on minutae for longer than in a normal-sized novel. The perspective the ending gives you makes all the small details throughout so essential to the “big picture.”
Whenever I recommend Lonesome Dove, I tell people that it begins with a lot of sitting around and talking about beans. But once it gets going, what a great story. Stick with it. Enjoy.
An absolute masterpiece! A slow burn maybe? I was instantly hooked by its tone and language. Probably not for everyone, but it’s one of my GOATS
Yes it’s the best book ever written.
Definitely. That book is on my list of “books I wish I could read again for the first time”.
