For those who have read this, does the fatphobia get better? It is so offputting how the worst quality (1/3 through book) of one of the characters is his weight. I could get past it if they expanded to how he is a bad person, but so far it's just repeated details of how he is so gross because he is so overweight.
It's disappointing because it is distracting and I otherwise am enjoying the story.
And to keep it on brand for this subreddit, any suggestions for mysteries like this? Without the fixation on how disgusting fat bodies are?

No, it really doesn’t. It bothers me too. It moves on from that character eventually but while Ravencroft is the POV, it’s constant.
I was not a fan of that book at all, I thought it was so overwritten, too long, and often boring.
In any case, I don’t know if the fatphobia is something that appears in that author’s books a lot, but I can’t tell you I read a lot of books and rarely come across it – certainly nothing as bad as what was in that book. If it bothers you, put it down and read something else. There are millions of other books and authors to choose from.
I just checked this out from Libby, I think I’ll be returning it now.
I bought this book because of a rec on this sub but try as I might, I just can’t get into it. It’s boring, confusing and I have no care or interest in finding out who the killer is. I’ve restarted it three times and have no abandoned. Chazzer shop here I come. Blah
