    – I really want tension build-up, slow burn.

    – I like 'enemies to lovers' when done right (not abusive) as well as 'friends to lovers'. Think Pride and Prejudice or Emma by Jane Austen.

    – Sex scenes are optional. I don't mind them if they're good, but they're not necessary.

    – I've really enjoyed Half a Soul and Ten Thousand Stitches by Olivia Atwater recently, being similar to Jane Austen vibes (set in regency era) but with fantasy elements.

    – I want it to be written well and have interesting characters. I know that's a bit vague, but I'm not sure how else to phrase it.

    Thank you!

    1. Have you tried the bridgerton series? Not sure they’d be considered slow burns, and they do have a bit of sex scenes, but they aren’t bad imo, I like them more than the show personally

A Woman Entangled by Cecilia Grant is a historical romance that has Emma vibes and is slow burn friends to lovers. Cecilia Grant only published three novels and one novella, but they all nail character and character arcs better than just about anyone else.

If you’d prefer contemporary romance, I loved Jana Goes Wild by Farah Heron. It’s kind of Emma inspired too, only the protagonist is the Jane Fairfax character and it’s a second chance with the Frank Churchill type character.

Much Ado About Nada by Uzma Jalaluddin is a modern retelling of Persuasion that was full of tension.

For an enemies to lovers, slow burn, closed door romance I loved 10 Things That Never Happened by Alexis Hall.
