so, me and my girlfriend sometimes take turns reading to each other at night, because we both can have trouble sleeping. we both love animals and grew up reading animal books (such as warrior cats, varjak paw, and watership down, which is still one of my favorite books of all time!) but i'm looking for one that's not totally juvenile, but isn't quite as violent/sad as the ones mentioned. i don't mind if it's aimed more towards teens, i just want something that won't give my beloved nightmares, haha. preferably something somewhat cute. does anybody have any recs ?

    1. Might not be exactly what you’re looking for, but give *The Travelling Cat Chronicles* by Hiro Arikawa a try.

    2. I think these are all middle grade or even possibly younger, but I know I really enjoyed reading these to my son as he was growing up: I, Houdini (escape artist hamster), Harry’s Mad (scientient parrot), and The Three Terrible Trins (trouble making mouse brothers). Dick King Smith wrote the last two I mentioned, and he has tons more. There was also a series we liked about Hank the Cowdog, about a dog who sees himself as the head of ranch security.
