Curious little creature here!
What is a book that have been so gruesome and/or so gut-churning that you questioned whether you should continue reading.
I've always liked watching horrifying movies, although demons and ghost don't scare me at all. Not even as a teen did I find such things scary however stuff that did scare me was Jack Torrance from The Shining and oddly enough that one scene with Peta from the hunger games, the one where he is strapped down after trying to to k*ll Katniss.
I would enjoy the Saw movies if i found the plot interesting.
I watched the Human Centipede and it was weird but not exactly something that gave me scary chills.
So I'm on my way to the world of books to find something gruesome and gory but with a good plot as a foundation.

Some of the scenes in American Psycho are pretty out there. I don’t really get visceral feelings like that from books, but I suppose if I did, it would be from that book.
Tender is the Flesh was really disgusting, although not all that scary if you can see what I mean. Black Farm was really gross too. As far as the scariest books I’ve read Pet Semetary is up there, that and The Road.
The Descent by Jeff Long was incredibly creepy and gruesome and awesome. The movie was very different than the book so even if you watched that, you’ll still enjoy the book.
Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk is the only book I had to dnf because it was so disgusting
Eta – this book is made up of short stories, so maybe some of the others are not as gruesome as the pool one but I could not get past that short story to continue through the rest of the book
